| Cray Selected for Top Honors at SC09 |
We had a great time at SC09 last month. The venue was great, we enjoyed meeting with customers and showcasing our newest products, including the Cray XT6TM line. This year, the Cray XT5TM "Jaguar" system at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) was honored with first place on the TOP500 list, followed in third place by "Kraken", the University of Tennessee's Cray XT5 system housed at ORNL.
Booth visitors saw live demonstrations of the Cray CX1TM deskside supercomputer and the even newer Cray CX1-iWSTM workstation.
The Cray CX1 supercomputer was named "Best HPC Cluster Solution or Technology" by the editors of HPCwire as part of the publication's 2009 Readers' and Editors' Choice Awards. In addition, Cray was named one of the "Top Five Vendors to Watch" by HPCwire readers. No less impressive, Cray President and CEO, Peter Ungaro, was named to HPCwire's "People to Watch in 2010" list.
We're very proud of our booth team for receiving the Sustainability Award from show organizers for designing a booth that was designed and manufactured using multiple earth-friendly elements -- surfaces made from bamboo or recycled soap bottles, art elements made from coconut shells, accents of live wheat grass, and paper-free collateral on touch-screens and USB drives. The Cray booth took the lead in embracing the SC09 organizing committee's goal of minimizing the environmental impact of the conference and setting a course for a more sustainable approach for SC conferences to come.

| Cray XT5 Supercomputer at ORNL Recognized as World's Fastest Supercomputer |
The Cray XT5 supercomputer, nicknamed Jaguar, located at the Department of Energy's ( DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory ( ORNL) achieved another supercomputing milestone. Announced at SC09, Jaguar was recognized by the Top 500 list as the world's fastest supercomputer.
"We are pleased that the upgraded Cray XT5 system at ORNL has added this new honor to its growing list of achievements," said Peter Ungaro, president and CEO of Cray. "While we are thrilled to have designed and built a supercomputing system that has broken a number of firsts in the industry, we are most proud of the fact that Jaguar is used day-in and day-out to solve real-world scientific problems at sustained speeds that no other system in the world can match -- including the first two scientific applications in the world ever to break one petaflops in sustained performance."

High-End Cray XT6 Supercomputer and Midrange Cray XT6m System Will Extend Cray's Performance and Productivity Leadership on Challenging Applications

At SC09, Cray announced the newest upgrades to the company's industry-leading Cray XTTM supercomputer series. The high-end Cray XT6 supercomputer system and its fully-compatible Cray XT6mTM midrange counterpart will combine Cray's unmatched scalability and architecture with AMD's newest innovations in processing for high performance computing (HPC). Scheduled for general availability in the second quarter of 2010, the Cray XT6 and Cray XT6m systems will continue to set the standard for HPC performance, productivity and energy efficiency.

| Meet the Cray CX1-iWS Workstation |
|
The Cray CX1-iWS system reinvents the workstation for the next era of technical computing. Engineers, scientists, researchers and other workstation users are continually challenged with more complex problems and shorter deadlines in which to solve them. The Cray CX1-iWS product addresses both of these issues by allowing larger models and simulations to be worked within the workstation environment, eliminating the need to move the problem to an external shared resource cluster. The result is more productive engineers and scientists, faster product development and time to insight, and workflow that avoids unnecessary disruption.

| "Cash-for-Clusters" Buy-Back Program |
"With a nod to the popular 'cash-for-clunkers' auto program, our ' cash-for-clusters' buy-back program gives workstation and cluster users a financial incentive to free themselves of their outdated systems," said Ian Miller, senior vice president of the productivity solutions group and marketing at Cray. "Simply give us your old workstations and clusters from any vendor, such as SGI, HP, Sun, IBM, Appro and Verari Systems and we will give you top dollar as a trade-in towards the purchase of a new Cray supercomputer -- it's as easy as that."
Participants in the program can apply their trade-in credits towards the latest in high performance computing systems from Cray, including the Cray CX1 deskside system, the CrayXT6m midrange system and the industry-leading petascale Cray XT6 supercomputer.

Cray Upgrades UT's Kraken |
See what it's like to perform a processor upgrade on one of the world's most powerful supercomputers. In this video, Cray's Al Enger walks through the upgrade process of the University of Tennessee's ( UT) Cray XT5 supercomputer known as Kraken at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which holds the number three spot in the new Top 500 list of the world's most powerful supercomputers. Enger is upgrading Kraken's Quad-Core AMD OpteronTM Processors to Six-Core AMD OpteronTM Processors.
