The areas of research and HPC modeling include weather forecasting, energy-related models, fluid dynamics, structural and materials science, basic and applied chemistry and database mining to name a few. 

Cray has a set of HPC products that tackle these diverse and challenging needs.  The ultimate scaling of the Cray XT Family and the Cray XT5 and XT5h systems in particular are designed to help solve both Grand-Challenge scientific problems, but also to provide general purpose HPC environments with a Linux-based operating system and powerful tools to enhance performance and usability. 

The Cray XMT is specifically designed to solve single most challenging database problems of today, that of the large analyzing large, unstructured datasets. 

The Cray CX1 desk side system, providing personal supercomputing, is an ideal research, development and test system for the Government and Defense marketplace.
